Over 25 Years in Connecticut Town & Country Montessori began its operation in this area of Connecticut in September of 1983 – first in Redding, then in Ridgefield at Branchville Elementary School, then at our present location in Wilton (1993).  Our founder, Claudia Vestal, had just moved from Minneapolis with a set of materials and the blessing of the parents from the school she had opened there.  Many of the materials in our classroom are the gifts of those generous, first parents.  Today, we continue the tradition of maintaining a small, not-for-profit school community that fosters the development of each child as an individual.  All three Directresses are Montessori trained and highly experienced. The Directresses partner with parents to maintain this spirit of cooperation and dedication to the Montessori philosophy.  All that we do at Town & Country - our methods, materials, actions, interactions, policies, procedures, and choices of all kinds – are rooted in our mission, in consideration for the needs of the child, with the goal of doing what’s best for the child and, thus, for our community.  Our Mission Town & Country Montessori is a mutually-supportive community of educators and families whose mission is to provide each child, through the philosophy, method, and materials developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, with the ideal environment in which to create the self and which cultivates the natural desire to learn; to provide a safe, tranquil atmosphere that nourishes the child’s spirit and nurtures the development of the child’s independence and self-confidence; to foster respect for oneself and for others and to develop understanding and appreciation of others through the promotion of peaceful cooperation; to inspire a sense of stewardship for the classroom environment and our world; to provide continuous opportunity, through the prepared environment, for each child to develop his or her powers of concentration and self-discipline, allowing the child to follow his or her own path toward full potential.
